Of all my tweets and Facebook posts and YouTube videos and 'blog posts and songs and lyrics and other writings with which I've assailed the Internet, the one thing that continues to draw the most attention, and has for years now, is my collection of "man walks into a bar" jokes. Which, needless to say, was not written by me. I'm not sure what this says about my original content. (OK, OK, we both know what it says about my original content, but...)
I've always enjoyed these jokes, particularly the ones that incorporate puns, and one day over a decade ago, I just got it into my head to start collecting the best ones on a page on my Web site. I've added to it a few times, though not recently, but I started noticing that it was the most visited page on the site. Ha! It seems a lot of people are looking for that kind of joke online. Because a lot of the characters walking into these bars are not actually men, I decided to call the page x Walks into a Bar instead.
While I'd certainly prefer having people coming to my site for my work (though some of those jokers do stay and peruse), if I'm helping to bring a chuckle to someone, that's good enough for me.
