2018-01-22

I get that they found themselves in a difficult position, but I do think Senate Democrats backed off too quickly (though NJ's own Cory Booker and Bob Menendez, among others, stuck to their guns). The fight's not over, of course, just postponed two and a half weeks with the passage of the continuing resolution. Still, if this ends without a fair resolution for the "Dreamers," Chuck Schumer's not the only one who'll pay a political price for it. Put aside the posturing and the lobbyist goodies for a while, all of you, and draw lines in the sand for the people who really need your help. Juggling convictions and compromise tends to draw criticism from all sides, but that's the job of a statesman.

Didn't mean "conviction" that way, Bob. Jeez, don't be so sensitive. Anyway, both parties share responsibility for the shutdown, and both parties had damned well better learn to negotiate before the next deadline. Gods know there won't be any help from the stable genius dealmaker in the Oval Office...
